I’m mostly a student. I’m sometimes a writer. Overall I feel like an explorer. I am currently doing my second degree in Western Civilization and Culture with the Liberal Arts College at Concordia University. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre (08′) also from Concordia.
My short term goals are to better my French, learn Russian, and discover where my strengths, weaknesses, and academic goals lie.
The title of this blog was taken from the book that interested me in speech in film of the 1930s and 40s: Fast-Talking Dames (2001). The author, Maria DiBatissta, is a professor of English and comparative literature at Princeton University.
The book opens with a quote that I think is relevant, always.
Do you not know I am a woman? What I think, I must speak.
—Rosalind in As You Like It, act 3, scene 2
I also felt inspired by the film and television characters that I think are our modern FTD’s; Lorelai and Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls), where their scripts were always double the size of the average 1 hour show, and especially Mary Richardson (Mary Tyler Moore Show), who spent most of her time talking herself out of all her awkward situations.
With this blog, I want to communicate, share ideas, interesting experiences, as well as my published work.
